Ventilation / Perfusion studies (V/Q scans)
Ventilation/perfusion (V/Q) studies can be undertaken in a number of different ways. In our centre we use intravenous albumin labelled with Technetium-99m for the perfusion scan and inhaled Krypton-81m gas for the ventilation scan. By far the most common indication for V/Q scanning is the investigation of suspected pulmonary embolism (click here for the clinical details ) Click here for automatic analysis Perfusion studies (without ventilation) are sometimes performed for quantitative assessment of function pre-surgery.
