Ultrasound of the Chest

By far the most common application of ultrasound in the chest is the investigation of the heart. In this context ultrasound is known as echocardiography and it is one of the main investigative tools in suspected cardiac disease (click).

There are two other ways of using ultrasound in the  chest

• Percutaneous thoracic ultrasound
• Trans-oesophageal echocardiography
