The cardiovascular system The cardiovascular system can be conveniently split into investigation of the heart and investigation of the vascular system and will be followed in this way. It should, however, always be realised that diseases affecting the cardiovascular system are systemic. Thus, for example, a patient with an atherosclerotic abdominal aortic aneurysm is also likely to be suffering from coronary artery disease and from intermittent claudication of the legs. |
