In the lungs CT is primarily used for :

  • staging of pulmonary malignancy
  • search for small metastases
  • assessment of chronic lung disease
  • diagnosis of pulmonary embolus/infarction
  • needle biopsy of lesions with unknown pathology
  • Screening for primary malignancy
